About Maria -

My husband and I married and moved to Lake Havasu in 1981.  We have lived here ever since with the exception of a couple years when we moved to West Virginia, and that is where I fell in love with pottery.  West Virginia University has a great program for Ceramic Arts and WVU graduates provided instruction and studio time at a gallery called ZenClay, which quickly became a haven for me.  After 3 years we moved back to Lake Havasu.  Upon my arrival I was given a kiln from a potter who was a member of the Art Guild.  I vowed I would return the favor by one day becoming a  ceramicist, and so here I am!  I have been making pottery for 10 years now.  I have worked with other mediums; drawing, acrylics, watercolor, beading, and jewelry, but Ceramics seems to be the most challenging, and also the most rewarding.  I receive great satisfaction drinking coffee and eating from the wares I have created.  I love the earthiness of clay and how it can be transformed from mud into a treasure. Glazing is where I enjoy experimenting with layering colors, using hand drawn stencils, and underglazing using watercolor techniques to decorate my pieces.  I think everyone should enjoy the comfort of eating and drinking from a handmade piece that is beautiful and useful. I'd like to be able to share this experience with you and hope that you will enjoy my pottery.
