About George -

Upon his retirement from the California Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal-Fire) in 1996, George Alex was introduced to the art of decoy wood carving by a close friend. They were self -taught using books and learning videos. Carving came somewhat easy for him, but learning to paint was a struggle.

Moving to Arizona in 2003, George became a Juried member of the Arizona State Art Alliance and the Lake Havasu Art Guild. He has been the recipient of several awards and ribbons for his sculptures of wildfowl. His work has been displayed and sold in art shows, galleries and shops in Arizona, California, Utah and Mexico.  His passion is to carve and paint various species of birds, ducks and restoration of old wooden “working decoys”.

George is also recognized for his unique creation of miniature duck and bird decoys made from old vintage wooden golf clubs. He fondly refers to them as “Quacker Woods”. These recycled old vintage golf clubs are definitely a “one of a kind” piece of art.
